Radiation Dose Theory

Knowing the absorbed dose in rad hard experiments is important. Using carbon doped aluminum oxide allows for measurement of this quantity.

Electrons fired from the 25b Linac at the Idaho Accelerator Center (IAC) impinge upon the nanodot OSLs and deposit energy as they travel through the crystalline structure. It is through this deposited energy that absorbed dose can be calculated.

[math]\text{Dose (Gy)} = \frac{\text{Deposited Energy (J)}}{\text{Mass (Kg)}} [/math]
