Purpose

This document description the application proceedures to safely apply the ED-7100 carbon paste. Using ED-7100 carbon paste is to avoid the sparks in TGEM-foil when the voltage is higher than 4900 V, in addition to use the paste for painting a neutron sensitive layer on the surface of the TGEM-foil after being mixed with Thorium-232.

Requirements for safe handling

Before opening the paste please read the ED-7100 Safety Data Sheet located at

Be sure that the following are available:

Ventilation

An externally venting fume hood is recommended when working with this paste or a work area with very good ventilation.

Poor Ventilation area

Paste Spraying

1- Gloves,goggles.

2- suitable protection clothes.

3- sack of sand or absorber for cleaning the area.

Paste Application Procedure

Aim

ED7100 paste thickness effect on the electrical resistance of a copper plate. [1]

a- Look at the safety conditions before using the paste.[2]
b- Equipment And Tools

ED-7100 paste, cleaner, CLR A/F lens blue frame revolution dust goggles, 27"WD 36"L vinyl clear ansell chem-resist apron, 35"WD 45"L neoprne Black ansell chem-resist apron, 8511 N90 3M particulate respirator, Nitrile disposal gloves.


d- Paste Processing

1- Add the paste to copper plate.(using a brush or a semi-mechanical printer)

2- Clean the paste residues using the cleaner.

3- Curing for 1 - 2h 30min. at 150 - 165 degrees Celsius.(Contact the company for IR-curing)

Oven Curing Procedure

1.) put on mask and apron (use goggles if spraying paste using printer)

2.) establish a work area under hood in LDS

3.) mix paste (if reducing is needed) under the hood for sufficient ventilation

4.) use applicator to smear paste on pc-board

5.) cure past

6.) post processing/ cleanup

Semi auto printer is recommended for the paste, the reducer should be added with very little quantities such that the characteristics of the paste will not change.

Hi Haitham,
 I looked into screen printing equipment and found a manufacture by the name of M&R Printing, 
 if you go on the internet and type that in you can look to see if they have something that would fit. 
Other than that I know some people have used equipment.  With regards to the SW100 we have a material that is the same which is    
 our Additive T.  If you need a pint of that testing let me know.

I looked at the website related to printing equipments, they have many choices but I still need to discuss more about what do we need exactly.

I sent to him to send us additive T instead of SW100.


Nov.18

I called Jeff asking about the additive T , he is requesting a sample, since it comes usually in 65 gallon per sample. Also the sample will be sent to Tony Forest, Physics Department.
