The Zener Diode

IZmax

  1. Construct the circuit below making sure the zener diode is oriented correctly.
  2. Choose a resister R which will allow you to cover the range IZ1mA and IZ12IZmax for the voltage range of your power supply.
  3. use a a digital multimeter to measure Vz for several values of Iz.

Zener Voltage Regulator

  1. Add a Zener diode to an unregulated power supply as shown below
  2. Use a value for R to have IL20 mA
  3. Measure VZ for IL = 1, 10, and 20 mA
  4. Tabulate your data and include the ripple.

Questions

  1. Derive IL=VaVZRIZ
  2. What happens if RL0.
