Budget

Technicians

The stringing, instrumentation, and testing of the R1 Drift chambers will require the hiring of 6 technicians. One technician, known as the "lead stringer", will be responsible for overseeing the remaining technicians, maintaining strict quality controls, updating progress reports, working towards solving problems which occur during the construction process, and assist with the R1 installation at JLab. Four technicians will be hired at a cost of $20/hr which will be responsible for stringing the wires in the Drift chambers. The last technician will test wire tension, attach electronic boards, and provide support for the other technicians as needed.

The workforce will be deployed in 3 stages. The first stage will be to hire the lead stringer and technician. The lead stringer will be trained at JLab for at least 3 weeks in the art of stringing, instrumenting and testing CLAS12 drift chambers. A technician, whose has a supporting role in the process will spend at least 1 week being trained on the use of the tension measurement apparatus and instrumentation procedure. Once training is complete, the lead stringer will return to ISU and begin the hiring process for 2 stringers. The second stage will be the training of two stringers by the lead stringer as the first R1 drift chamber (R1DCA) is strung. The third stage will be to hire 2 more stringers who will be trained during the stringing of the second R1 drift chamber (R1DCB). We expect to be stringing 2 chambers at a time after the first group of stringers has strung half of the wires for R1DCA. The technician will be spot checking tension during the first stage. Since instrumentation requires substantially less time than stringing, our expectation is that the technician will spend some time supporting the string tension measurements as well as instrumenting and testing strung drift chambers.
