Angular distribution of neutrons from the photodisintegration of deuterium

Go back MCNP simulations

A cylindrical target of heavy water approximately the size of a standard water bottle was subject to bremsstrahlung photons with an end point energy of 10.5 MeV. Ideal detectors with a width of 6" and height of 30" were placed 150 cm from the target at angles ranging from 0 to 180 degrees (relative to the beam axis). Here is a top down view of the simulation geometry:

Here is a histogram of the direction cosine WTR the beam axis of neutrons produced by photons. The red line is the Legendre polynomial expansion whose coefficients can be seen in the statistics box.
