11/1/12

Sector 5 - strung 51 Sense wires (now on SL2 - row 176). Completed weekly Tension Trend test.

Sector 6 - Finished potting top plate (both SL1 and SL2).

Completed weekly cleanroom clean.

11/5/12

Visual inspection of the top plate potting on Sector 6 showed some feed throughs where epoxy retracted during hardening. Inspected entire top plate for bubbles, exposed bottom cups on feed throughs and other potential issues. Determined that a possible explanation is that this scale does not have the appropriate resolution for mixing small batches of epoxy (low total weight for the batch). We did not see this problem when potting Sector 1, however, much larger batches of epoxy were mixed then because the directive from the former manager was to fill the entire feed through cup with epoxy and more epoxy was required overall. The current potting procedure states that only the lower feed through cup is to be filled with glue. Another scale has been ordered and shipping has been expedited. In the mean time, larger batches of epoxy are being mixed to improve gram to gram ratio of chemicals. Additional epoxy was added to deficient feed throughs using epoxy mixed in larger total weight batches. Visual inspection will be completed tomorrow before proceeding.

No stringing was completed on Sector 5 because both lifts were used to either pot or inspect Sector 6.

Re-routed the nitrogen gas supply lines for more efficient and easy use during potting. Repaired inappropriately installed nitrogen gas lines to potting machines.

Re-covered two rollers from the Sector 5 stringing machine with the new foam material Steve sent from J-Lab.

Sent copies of the Sense spreadsheets to George. There was a problem in entering the "calculated period" into the "measured period" column. Doing so returned a 10% tension error. In the Field spreadsheets, the same course of action yields a 0% tension error. It was found, and George confirmed, that the problem was that the "design tension load" in the Specs sheet has 20g instead of 18.2g as indicated in the stringing manual. The ISU Sense wire spreadsheets will be changed accordingly.

11/6/12

Sector 5 - strung 60 Sense wires (now on SL2 - row 196).

Sector 6 - visual inspection of Monday potting. All looks good.

We were short handed today, so we tried to make up some stringing time on Sector 5 with the two stringers working today.

11/7/12

Sector 1 - per Dr. Forest's request, continuity checked all new cables. All check out fine. Began design for scintillator platform.

Sector 5 - strung 39 Sense wires (now on SL2 - row 209). Had some issues with Sense wire breaking during stringing. Replaced rollers on stringing machine with rollers covered in the new foam sent from J-Lab. These rollers seem to be working much better.

Sector 6 - installed and glued all plugs in top plate holes. Should be set to rotate and begin potting the bottom plate late tomorrow morning.

11/8/12

Sector 1 - testing ECL output from ADB with new cables.

Sector 5 - strung 54 Sense wires (finished SL2 Sense stringing). Completed weekly Tension Trend test.

Sector 6 - rotated and leveled chamber for potting bottom plate. Potted SL2 row 228-212.

Completed weekly cleanroom clean.

11/12/12

Sector 5 - completed a brief visual inspection of SL2 wires. Rotated and aligned chamber for SL1 stringing. Strung 46 Sense wires (now on SL1 - row 19).

Sector 6 - potted SL2 row 211-93.

11/13/12

Sector 5 - strung 60 Sense wires (now on SL1 - row 39).

Sector 6 - potted SL2 row 22-92.

11/14/12

Sector 5 - strung 63 Sense wires (now on SL1 - row 60).

Sector 6 - finished potting SL2. Potted rows 1-120 and 158-228.

11/15/12

Sector 5 - strung 51 Sense wires (now on SL1 - row 77). Completed weekly Tension Trend test.

Sector 6 - finished potting SL1. Began visual inspection of bottom plate potting.

Completed weekly cleanroom clean.
