8/6/12

Started training a new stringer today.

Strung 56 Field wires on Sector 5 (now on SL2 - row 41). Removed R1 pretensioner at row 40.

Strung 15 Sense wires on Sector 6 (now on SL2 - row 188).

We have repeatedly had issues with blocked feed throughs on both Sector 5 and Sector 6. Spent the afternoon cleaning out feed throughs on both chambers. We will use nitrogen to clear out any debris after the process is complete. There is a Field feed through at 167-11 in superlayer 1 that is completely blocked by glue inside the chamber. We also spent considerable time removing small metal pieces from inside Sector 6. They appear to be tiny circles of metal. Pictures of all of the above mentioned issues will be taken and uploaded tomorrow.

8/7/12

Continued training the new stringer on top stringing Sector 5.

Strung 84 Field wires on Sector 5 (now on SL2 - row 53).

Strung 39 Sense wires on Sector 6 (now on SL2 - row 201).

Completed cleaning out Sector 6 chamber of all debris. Nitrogen was used to blow particles down to the tail where they were removed. Some of the metal pieces did not move easily when blown. They were retrieved with a small probe and a steady hand. No wires were touched or otherwise damaged during the proces. We are seeing several pieces of fibrous, fluffy material stuck in the glue around the feed throughs in this chamber. The particles do not move with any amount of nitrogen blown in their direction. They appear to be well seated in the gluue.

We are waiting to clean out the Sector 5 chamber until the blocked feed through is replaced.
