6/1/12

Strung 70 wires on Sector 6 (now on SL1 - row 111). Removed R3 pretensioner at row 110.

Changed Field wire at SL1-110-3 (switched from roll F23 to roll F27).

Adjusted alignment of Sector 6.

Completed weekly tension trend test.

6/4/12

New stringer started today. Began training with observation and reading stringing manual.

Strung 84 wires on Sector 6 (now on SL1 - row 123).

Adjusted alignment of Sector 6.

Fixed stringer on Sector 6. The rubber on the left roller had extended over the edge of the roller and was slowing rotation. Pushed rubber back onto the roller and tested for free rotation before resuming stringing.

Started alignment of Sector 5. This chamber didn't have any jam nuts on the struts. New jam nuts were purchased but only fit one strut. Nuts will be returned to check for defect or wrong thread type.

6/5/12

Finished aligning Sector 5. Corrected wire adapter on Sector 5 stringing machine (last stringer had used the Field adapter and the wire was not dispensing properly. The Guard adapter is now in place and the machine is working well).

Began stringing training on SL1 Guard wires on Sector 5. Strung 14 Guard wires (now on SL1 - row 11).

Strung 35 Field wires on Sector 6 (now on SL1 - row 128).

Temperature and Humidity values are not registering on the 'cacti' website. Took the ambient temperature using a probe for the digital multimeter. Temp is 69.7 degrees F at 16:07.

6/6/12

Strung 21 Field wires on Sector 6 (now on SL1 - row 131). Removed C4 pretensioner at row 130.

Strung 27 Guard wires on Sector 5 (now on SL1 - row 38). Adjusted C1 pretensioner at row 25.

Continued training of new stringer (David) on Sector 5 Guard wires.

Repaired and corrected weights for Sector 5 stringing. Some of them were not put together well and needed repair. Weights for Field and Sense wires were adjusted to correct values.

6/7/12

Strung 49 Guard wires on Sector 5 (now on SL1 - row 87). Adjusted pretensioners as follows: R1 at row 40, C2 at row 60 and R2 at row 74.

Adjusted alignment of Sector 5 chamber.

Contined training David on top stringing Sector 5 Guard wires.

6/8/12

Strung 84 Field wires on Sector 6 (now on SL1 - row 143).

Completed weekly tension trend test.

Changed out one Ar/CO2 gas tank for Sector 1 chamber.

6/11/12

New stringer, Dion, started today. Began training with observation and reading stringing manual. Continued training with David.

Strung 28 Field wires on Sector 6 (now on row 147).

Temperature monitoring website is down again. Sent an e-mail to Brian Oborn. Temp measured with digital multimeter 69.4 degrees F.

Turned on power supply for Sector 5. Found that there is power going into the power supply. However, the current limit light is on and no power is going to the magnet or reading on the voltage display. Will continue trouble shooting tomorrow.

6/12/12

Continued training both new stringers on Sector 5 with supervision on top and bottom.

Strung 19 Guard wires on Sector 5 (now on row 106).

Completed a total clean of the cleanroom i.e. surfaces, floor, lifts, walls.

Particle count before clean: 0.5um = 6,000/cubic meter 5.0um = 706/cubic meter

Particle count after clean: 0.5um = 10,700/cubic meter 5.0um = 1,180/cubic meter

While making a pretensioner adjustment on Sector 5, it was noticed that some of the pretensioners were not adjusted to the correct spring height by a previous stringer. The stringing manual directs that spring heights should be at 1.75 inches (4.5 cm) and then adjusted to 2.1 inches (5.3 cm). Stringing in superlayer 1 is at row 106, so adjustments have not been made to C4-C7 and R3-R6. The pretensioners of concern (C7, R4 and R5) are for superlayer 2 (where all adjustments should have been made). The decision was made that the spring heights in question would be adjusted to the specification because only Guard wires have been strung in the chamber. Any consequences of this adjustment will be noted and reported following adjustments.

The following table of measurements was taken:

Pretensioner Spring Height
Superlayer 1 Superlayer 2
Pretensioner Spring Height(cm) Spring Height(cm)
C1 5.2 5.2
C2 5.2 5.1
C3 5.2 5.2
C4 4.5 5.2
C5 4.5 5.3
C6 4.5 5.3
C7 4.5 4.6

R2 5.3 5.4
R3 4.4 5.4
R4 4.4 4.9
