Grading
Course grade will be assigned based on homework, a midterm, and a final exam using the metric below..
Performance Measure | % contribution to final grade |
Homework | 40% |
Midterm | 40% |
Final | 20% |
Grading Scale : 90-100% = A, 80-89.9% = B, 70-79.9% = C, 60-69.9% = D, < 60% = F
Homework
Given the ease with which homework solutions may be found using the internet, students will be asked to illustrate their understanding of the assigned homework problems by explaining their solutions in class. Student will be randomly assigned problems well in advance of being asked to explain their solutions in class. The instructor will evaluate their understanding of the homework solution using the following metric.
available points | metric |
2/5 | The student was able to state the fundamental physics principles that are applied to solve the given problem |
2/5 | The student was able to illustrate how the above principles are applied to the problem using the standard mathematical formalism |
1/5 | The student was able to interpret the resuls of their solution |
The pool of homework problems from your text may be found in the table at
