While the previous speakers have certainly been elegant I do not find that I have been pursuaded.  Some have argued that asking the faculty to express their voice is insulting to the task forces.  I was told that the task forces are composed of respected and distinguished members of ISU's faculty.  This description bring to mind several attributes that I would expect from such a faculty member.  I believe a distinguished member of our faculty is one who would think outside the box, and express their ideas for the purpose of deliberation.  While having a conviction for their ideas I would not expect such a faculty member to be obstinate.  Rather I would expect to be open to other ideas and to have the confidence to have any idea judged on its merits without any insinuations of dire consequences should their position not be adopted by the masses.

While some may have the arogance to believe that the faculty elected their voice so it must represent the faculty,  I put it to my fellow senators, it would be arogant of us to believe that we can represent the voice of the faculty unless we hear that voice

Hypocrisy in anything whatever may deceive the cleverest and most penetrating man, but the least wide-awake of children recognizes it, and is revolted by it, however ingeniously it may be disguised.

While the previous speakers have certainly been elegant I do not find myself pursuaded.

I put it to my fellow senators, would it not be arrogant of us to believe that we can represent the voice of the faculty if we not take the time to hear that voice.
