First Experiment
- Background run over >24hrs in new shielding design.
- Might be worth checking the reduction in neutron flux using the He3 tube in the detector arm with the high activity source.
- Since the He3 is most efficient for thermal neutrons, with/out Gd gives an idea of the efficacy of the converter.
- If time, could use the tube for all thicknesses in & out and add to support models (and physics) that thermal neutron flux decreases as thickness of Gd increases.
- Start with different thicknesses of Gd foils using holder 1
- Minimum thickness is 0.1mm and max is either 5(0.1)+2(0.13) mm or 5(0.1)+3(0.13) mm, will depend on how many 10x10cm sheets I can cut from the larger piece left.
